The Rodeo Reef Games
The sun came up on Rodeo Reef,
and flags flew high from every leaf.
"Game day! Game day!" rang the call.
"Bring your boots and bring your ball!"
The sea-cows love a ball that's round.
They bounce it, roll it on the ground.
A wibble, a wobble, a boot, a SCORE!
The whole herd moos and plays some more.
Troy and Achilles play all day
with an oval ball that won't obey.
It bounces this way, then bounces THAT...
and it lands on Penny's picnic mat!
Round or oval, big or small,
in Rodeo Reef we love them all.
Kick one, throw one, give one a whack,
and when it comes, send it back!
The Crabbe Brothers hold their rackets tight.
A claw grips a racket right!
They pit it, pat it over the net,
that's the longest rally yet!
Sheriff Seahorse likes a stick,
he curls his tail for a clever flick.
He taps the ball along the sand,
the finest stick-work in the land.
Pip throws a ball with all his might.
It sails high and out of sight.
But Granny Grouper knows her stuff:
one gentle gulp... one soft puff!
Some like to kick and some like to throw,
some like rackets, some sticks, and so:
round or oval, big or small,
in Rodeo Reef we love them all.
But Cowboyapuss stood still and frowned.
Oval? Racket? Stick? Or round?
"Every single game looks fun.
How can a cowboy pick just one?"
Then he grinned his biggest grin,
counted all eight limbs... and dived right in!
One arm kicked and one arm threw,
one swung a racket - make that two!,
one tapped a stick, one rolled a round,
one bounced the oval off the ground,
and the very last limb waved his hat
and led the cheering after that!
Balls went bouncing all around,
oval, racket-balls and round,
and every neighbour, big and small,
came laughing in to chase them all.
They made a game with every ball,
the great big mixed-up Reef-a-ball!
Nobody lost, eveybody won.
They played until the day was done.
Round or oval, big or small,
in Rodeo Reef we love them all.
But the best part, partner, tried and true:
is playing games with friends like you.
