The Rodeo Reef Games

Flags fly over Rodeo Reef as everyone hurries out with balls and rackets for game day.

The sun came up on Rodeo Reef,
and flags flew high from every leaf.
"Game day! Game day!" rang the call.
"Bring your boots and bring your ball!"

1
The sea-cows bounce and kick a round ball between kelp goalposts, mooing happily.

The sea-cows love a ball that's round.
They bounce it, roll it on the ground.
A wibble, a wobble, a boot, a SCORE!
The whole herd moos and plays some more.

2
Troy and Achilles chase a bouncing oval ball that lands on Penny's picnic mat.

Troy and Achilles play all day
with an oval ball that won't obey.
It bounces this way, then bounces THAT...
and it lands on Penny's picnic mat!

3
Balls of every shape and size fly across the prairie while friends leap and laugh below.

Round or oval, big or small,
in Rodeo Reef we love them all.
Kick one, throw one, give one a whack,
and when it comes, send it back!

4
The three Crabbe Brothers hold rackets in their claws and rally a ball over a kelp net.

The Crabbe Brothers hold their rackets tight.
A claw grips a racket right!
They pit it, pat it over the net,
that's the longest rally yet!

5
Sheriff Seahorse curls his tail around a driftwood stick and taps a ball along the sand.

Sheriff Seahorse likes a stick,
he curls his tail for a clever flick.
He taps the ball along the sand,
the finest stick-work in the land.

6
Pip throws a ball high, and Granny Grouper catches it gently in her big kind mouth.

Pip throws a ball with all his might.
It sails high and out of sight.
But Granny Grouper knows her stuff:
one gentle gulp... one soft puff!

7
Each friend plays their favourite way: kicking, throwing, swinging rackets and tapping sticks.

Some like to kick and some like to throw,
some like rackets, some sticks, and so:
round or oval, big or small,
in Rodeo Reef we love them all.

8
Cowboyapuss stands in the middle of the games, wondering which one to pick.

But Cowboyapuss stood still and frowned.
Oval? Racket? Stick? Or round?
"Every single game looks fun.
How can a cowboy pick just one?"

9
Cowboyapuss dives in to play, one arm kicking, one throwing, two swinging rackets.

Then he grinned his biggest grin,
counted all eight limbs... and dived right in!
One arm kicked and one arm threw,
one swung a racket - make that two!,

10
All eight limbs play at once: stick, round ball, oval ball, and one limb waving his hat.

one tapped a stick, one rolled a round,
one bounced the oval off the ground,
and the very last limb waved his hat
and led the cheering after that!

11
Balls bounce everywhere as all the friends run in laughing to chase them.

Balls went bouncing all around,
oval, racket-balls and round,
and every neighbour, big and small,
came laughing in to chase them all.

12
Everyone plays one big mixed-up game together with every ball at golden hour.

They made a game with every ball,
the great big mixed-up Reef-a-ball!
Nobody lost, eveybody won.
They played until the day was done.

13
All the friends pile together happily on the prairie at sunset with their balls and gear.

Round or oval, big or small,
in Rodeo Reef we love them all.
But the best part, partner, tried and true:
is playing games with friends like you.
